I'm a very nostalgic guy for anything from the 1990's. I enjoy watching the old Nickelodeon cartoons from the '90s (now being shown on TeenNick) and I've often found I see the shows in a different light. I find myself sympathizing with the poor parents of the Rugrats and unfortunately not laughing as much as I once did to All That. CatDog I also have just recently started seeing in a different light -- a light of a successful relationship.
CatDog is a great illustration of a relationship. For those that have never watched the show it's about a cat and dog that are attached to each other. Here is the opening of the show:

Now you may be wondering, what does a child's cartoon from the '90s have to do with relationships? It's simple: They are attached to each other. What better illustration of a relationship between two people?
When you find the right person in your life you become metaphorically "attached" to them as well. If you watch the show, you find that Cat and Dog do everything together and get along often, but there are also stark differences between them and they can get on each others' nerves on a regular basis as well. It's just like the proverbial "cat person" and "dog person" living together just taken to a new level.
Relationships have some similarities: When you are with the person that you are meant to be with -- your soul mate, so to speak -- you are attached spiritually. Sure, people in relationships fight sometimes, they disagree but they are attached, they are a part of each other and they have to compromise. At the end of most episodes, Cat and Dog do find an agreement of some sort or they're simply not fighting anymore because the issue has passed. You can see many times that they do care about each other when they're in trouble as well.
People in today's culture rarely try to figure things out. When times get tough they'll oftentimes just revert to seperation/divorce. Here's a point to ponder: NO relationship is perfect. No matter who you are with there will be tough times, disagreements, and general difficulty. If you just call it quits at these points you will NEVER be happy because there is nobody out there EXACTLY like you that you'll always agree or never have hardships.
There was an episode of CatDog called "CatDog's End" where Cat goes to a store called "Better Bottoms" where he wants to be detached from Dog and have a new "butt" attached. In the end (pardon the pun, and spoiler alert), Cat jumps off the cutting table just before the knife separates them. He realized that while Dog can get on his nerves, he loves him, he needs him. Dog, with all his annoyances, is a part of him and completes him (literally).
If people realized that life isn't always easy, that there will be disagreements and problems, but that it is possible to compromise and get past even the most difficult issues, maybe the divorce rate wouldn't be as high as it is? Just think, if a cat and dog can live relatively peacefully together...can't you? Here's a suggestion to improve your relationship and have a little fun: watch CatDog together!
