Writer & Journalist Erik S. Hanley
"For hanleyes are upon the ways of
mortals, and he sees all their steps."
-Job 34:21 (NRSV)
I’m a red-headed, burly Irishman with a God-given gift of creative writing and dreams of becoming a famous fiction author. I strive to incorporate my faith into my daily life, which is why my dream is to not only write some Christian-themed fiction, but to work for a Christian publication someday either as a reporter or copywriter. However, wherever I end up working, I will work objectively and use my gifts to their fullest potential as I believe in having and maintaining a traditional, strong work ethic.
Ever since the first grade when I penned my first story, I've loved writing. The first time I was published was in a college literary magazine -- the MATC Phoenix -- and my short story won an award. Recently, I self-published that story on Barnes and Noble's Nook Store. I interned at Patch.com for a semester where I covered various news stories and feature articles. I've also been published on the Irish American Post, Media Milwaukee and in the MATC Times newspaper. In high school, I was the Editor-in-Chief of our school paper -- the Shoreland Navigator. My hobbies outside of writing include: Bible study, camping, reading, video games, darts, archery, taking a walk or hike, and researching -- I'm always trying to learn and better myself.
I attended Zion Lutheran grade school until 2004. I graduated from Shoreland Lutheran high school (SLHS) in 2008 in the top 10 of my class. I received my Associates in Arts and a Certificate in American Indian Studies at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), graduating Phi Theta Kappa.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies in 2012 from the University of Wisconsin -- Milwaukee, graduating cum laude with a triple concentration in print journalism, advertising/public relations, and media studies. I also achieved Pi Sigma Alpha status in my minor of Political Science. While at UWM I was also an intern at University Christian Ministries on campus where I designed flyers, hosted a Bible study, organized a game night, and helped with the free lunch program. I'm currently doing some freelance work but looking for more steady employment.
